Uruguay: None of the above and democracy in Latin America and the drugs trade
Uruguay: None of the above
Uruguay is facing a 'None of the above' moment when the country is heading towards a General Election. One in ten citizens qualified to vote do not want the present ruling coalition nor the Frente Amplio (Broad Front).
In spite of everything, Uruguay is in much better position that its neighbour Argentina that faces second round of elections this month having to decide between Justicialista Massa or Reformist Milei. There is a possibility that Radical supporters might vote for Justicialista Massa to prevent Reformist Milei from becoming President of Argentina. The formation of Parliament was decided in the first round of elections that took place in October.
The Coalition headed by President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou has made itself vulnerable and the recent round of scandals involved the resignation of major figures of the Coalition government including the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. The scandal is about the award of a Uruguayan passport to a leading drug trafficker. Uruguay, like other Latin American countries, is part of the international drugs trade. Some years ago, Chile's economic boom in the building sector was due to massive amount of investments of monies produced by the international drugs trade and Uruguay is no exception.
There are major social issues including the rise of violence perpetrated by minors that led to calls to lower the age of legal responsibility. Drugs and other social issues are driving a major wave of criminality. That ten per cent of voters have been without any options when it comes to elections is worrying.

The War in Afghanistan lasted about 20 years at an incalculable cost. Will the War in Ukraine go the same way?

Ukraine Crisis or Oil and Gas Casino?
Ukraine Crisis or Oil and Gas Casino
While most people and the mass media seem fixed on events linked to a
mythological invasion, what is happening to oil and gas shares around the
world?
There are all kinds of headlines linked to events in Ukraine, but what
is the reality of it all? Who is really making truckloads of money speculating
in international markets? With the Covid pandemic and the loss of economic
activity, oil and gas prices went down as demand went down. Then suddenly,
economic activity started to pick up and oil and gas prices went up
again.
British newspapers were mentioned that should there be shortages of oil
and gas, Britain would be receiving gas from.... Australia? You only have to
look at mapamundi to see that there is a lot more than meets the eye. Container
ships bringing American fracking gas across the Atlantic? Container ships
bringing in gas all the way from Australia? As some environmental activists
complain about air traffic including the use of private jets, has anybody
stopped to think about the footprint of ships carrying vast amounts of gas and
oil across vast oceans of the world? At what cost? Suddenly, you can forget
about environmental targets because what we are listening about has nothing to
do environmental targets and a lot do with geopolitical objectives and
speculation in world markets.
India and China were a lot more honest when it comes to energy needs and
energy sources. Yes, they will not phase out their production of coal - just to
give an example - and they will continue building up coal energy plants.
Undoubtedly, any talk about shortages and especially shortages due to
geopolitical situations will benefit certain investors. War in Europe? How much
money can we make out of it?
Recently, a very expensive jet fighter went down in Asia. There were the
usual comments about the best American technology falling into Chinese hands
because the jet crash on 'unfriendly waters'. How much did the aircraft cost?
Who cares? There will be another aircraft to replace the one that crashed, and
monies will be made by certain 'investors' that would like to have another war,
another massive war, because wars are money making machines. They could not
care less about human lives lost or ruined.
In more than one way, those who invest in wars are exactly what the drug
cartels are about: quick riches regardless of the thousands upon thousands of
lives lost or ruined. This is the business of war.
The fat cats will continue increasing their fortunes. Their helpers like the authorities of NATO will see their bank accounts grow and grow and they will continue making inflammatory speeches because the more inflammatory their speeches are a major war is ever closer.

Going into Afghanistan in 2001 was an act of madness. Leaving in 2021 after 20 years of occupation was another act of madness.
They went in like Bomber Harris, bombing, bombing and bombing indiscriminately because they wanted to kill Osama bin Laden.
Imagine if we were to bomb Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia or any other country because we wanted to flush out a group of narco-traffickers.
And the world watched the so called War on Terror that became a war against the people of Afghanistan, most of who had nothing to do with Osama bin Laden and AlQaeda. From the war on terror, we went into the Nation Building Approach with talk about a promising future of the people of Afghanistan with social developments including education.
Now, Joe Biden has put an end to social developments and education and replaced them with another war in which Taliban is going against its own people to turn the clock back and the number of casualties to whom promises were made about a brilliant future. Those who dared to believe in a promising future are being stabbed in the back by President Joe Biden.
As soon as Western troops started to pull out the slaughter began.

This is what Liberalism had led to
The doctrine of Laissez-faire, Laissez-passer has led to generation after generation of drug abuse that has produced damaged offspring and led to criminality and anti-social behaviour, low productivity and mental illness.
There is not such a thing as Class A drug, Class B drug and class C drug. All drugs are class A and should carry the same penalty.
Damaging your brain and your body via the use of drugs including alcohol, tobacco, tea and coffee. Excessive eating might for some be what they call comfort-eating but the damage done to individuals and to society as a whole is immense and is irreversible. The lack of something useful to do leads to all kinds of evils. The cost is astronomical both in human, social and economic terms.

Legal Highs: More lethal than Nuclear Bombs
If you add the walking dead to the number of people who lost their lives because of drug addiction the number grows exponentially.
As the poster mentions, seizures, black-outs, memory loss, heart problems and strokes are very much part of the direct consequences.
The so called buzz of drugs can affect an even greater number of people including those whose lives are negatively affected by the mere existence of drug-addicts. The social cost is immense added to the burden of services increasingly eroded having to cope with an increasing number of addicts of all ages.
The long term effects are even worse if you think about generations upon generations of unborn children that are going to pay a very high price because of the behaviour of drug-addicts.
