Lizzie Dearden: When ideology supersedes reporting

Lizzie Dearden: When ideology supersedes reporting

When newspapers' bosses ask themselves why the numbers of newspaper copies sold fell dramatically, they need to have a closer look at the trends of the articles that they print. One cannot fail to spot the fact that many writers like Lizzie Dearden seem to be ideologically driven and that therefore the copies that they produce and their reporting style is not about genuine reporting. They have a case to prove.

Reporting about legal cases is not about reporting. It is about character assassination. This is pretty bad journalism. When I read a paper, I want real reporting. I want to hear all sides of a story and I want the said reporting to be focused on the case in hand. I don't want a novel in which the author is trying to prove that the person they are reporting about is a very bad person. In so doing, reporting is no longer reporting. It becomes purely and simply propaganda. The Independent was forced out of circulation because not enough copies were being sold to justify the costs of printing and distribution. Now, the The Independent is just an Internet concern.

It is a great idea to have a public forum where people can express their views freely and The Independent has had some success becoming the newspaper version of Facebook. Unfortunately, those in charge have made some mistakes along the way. Whether you want to report about Tommy Robinson or Brexit or whatever else, reporting should not be partisan. The Independent is clearly biased when it comes to reporting about Tommy Robinson and is officially partisan when reporting about Brexit since the paper launched a campaign against Brexit. Once again, when I am thinking about paying for a service, I will definitely be against paying for a service when instead of reporting I am going to get a pamphlet. From a commercial standpoint, a partisan organisation stands to lose money.

People like Alexander Lebedev and Evgeny Lebedev have very high profiles but their actions seem to be at odds with what is published by The Independent. They reportedly have regular meetings with the Prime Minister and the Chancellor and have an ongoing relationship with Ruppert Murdoch , Nigel Farage and Liam Fox. Alexander Lebedev reportedly closed a newspaper because the said publication criticised Vladimir Putin, was in United Russia Party in support of President Putin and stated that Vladimir Putin is one thousand times more genius than Winston Churchill.

In the running of The Independent there seems to be a system in place, not much different from the systems applied by secret services when what you see is more often than not what they want you to see and not what is really happening.
Whenever there is an opportunity to bash President Putin and the Russian Federation, Members of Parliament rise to the occasion to depict President Putin and the Russian Federation as evil. Not long ago, Britain expelled Russian diplomats and staff and denied a visa to Roman Abramovich and statements were made about countering Russian interference in British Affairs and we have a former member of the late  KGB and his son and - both supporters of President Putin - being members of the British political scene.
Very often the Houses of Parliament are a bit of a theatre where paid actors play a certain role in a certain play. Everything is not always what it seems. The Independent and its reports fit perfectly in that kind of political circus. The problem is that nowadays we need clarity. We don't need a circus nor a theatre. A digital publication that purports to be a newspaper should be a real newspaper and not a propaganda machine.

Britain needs real journalism. BBC, SKY and others simply add to extraordinary levels of confusion, distortion and disinformation. Practically all publications and mass media have lost followers. If organisations like the BBC had to survive with their own means, the BBC would have gone the way of Woolworths, Maplin and other private companies. The call by the UKIP Independence Party to get rid of  the TV License sends a clear message but we know that without political power things will remain as they are.

Roman Abramovich 1 - Theresa May 0

Roman Abramovich 1 - Theresa May 0

Delaying the approval of a British Visa for Roman Abramovich was a very clear political move and yet another way of bothering Russian investors and in this particular case a Russian investor that is said to be close to President Putin.

Roman Abramovich has been investing in the United Kingdom and not just for personal gain. Knee-jerk reactions of the Conservative government led by Theresa May have the foreseeable negative repercussions that apparently none of Prime Minister Theresa May's advisers - since the Prime Minister seems to be blind - is unable to mention.

Prime Minister Theresa May's set out on a collision course with Russian investors and as it could have been predicted, Roman Abramovich cancel planned investments for one billion Pound. Obviously, the Prime Minister was not aware of the consequences for Kensington and Chelsea. As it transpires, as part of the process of approval of the planning application for developments, Roman Abramovich had agreed to provide the local authority of Kensington and Chelsea the amount of 22 million Pound for community improvements.

It is absolutely logical that if you attack the person that is supposed to provide funding you are not going to get any funding but problems don't end with this major issue. The running of Chelsea Football Club has itself being put in jeopardy. The club could go from riches to rugs overnight. Who will be the manager for the new season? Will the club be able to take advantage of the transfer window to acquire/sell players? Would you want to sign a contract with a football club whose future looks uncertain? Despite what club representatives believe, Roman Abramovich could suddenly decide to put the club for sale.

Israel has given Roman Abramovich the possibility of not paying taxes for a very long time and the assurances that as long as monies are invested in Israel the issue of where the money comes is irrelevant. To put it mildly, Israel is giving Roman Abramovich what Britain will still give to investors from Saudi Arabia and from other countries.

This goes to show how miscalculation can lead to disaster as concerns rise about trading environments. Some countries are already asking for lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation. US just announced new import taxes to be applied to EU products including steel and aluminium. EU is said to be preparing a counter attack. Britain's losses will be somebody else's gains. If US import taxes mean rising unemployment in UK and EU the entire political scene could change dramatically leading to polarisation. It is already happening in Austria, Hungary, Poland and Italy and the seeds of major changes have already been planted in Germany where car manufacturers and related industries could see exports plummet.

When they bring back Litvinenko, you know that dirt is coming

Alexandr Litvinenko
Whenever the BBC brings back Alexandr Litvinenko, killed by British agents in London to protect CIA operator and former Russian powerful man Boris Berezovski, you know that dirt is coming.

Alexandr Litvinenko, former KGB agent, in his new re-incarnation was the right hand man of Boris Berezovski, a former Boris Yeltsin supporter, who having left Russia in a hurry had dealings with Muslim Chechen rebels carrying out terrorist attacks.

Boris Berezovski was also working for the CIA and bringing in to the West politicians that fell out of grace including sons of Presidents. The way things worked was that they would arrive in Britain and the same firm of lawyers working for Boris Berezovsky would get them visas to remain in Britain or perhaps travel to other parts of the so called Western World including the US.

Both Boris Berezovsky and Alexandr Litvinenko were seen as insiders who in theory possessed valuable information about the USSR that gave way to the Russian Federation. The US needed access to landlocked Afghanistan and who better to contact 'old friends' than Boris Berezovsky and his lieutenant Alexandr Litvinenko.

What wasn't so convenient was the fact that both Boris Berezovsky and Alexandr Litvinenko had links with Chechen rebels linked to AlQaeda and Taliban at a time when British Forces were fighting in Afghanistan under Prime Minister Tony Blair.

In every transaction you needed valuable friends and who better in terms of knowing about dirty dealings that the Italian Mafia and this is where Mario Scaramella, an Italian lawyer, that was supposedly investigating Italian Mafia links. When it came to money and weapons Chechen terrorists needed what better than the Italian Mafia.
Mario Scaramella
Alexandr Litvinenko was very small fish but you always need a good bait to catch a bigger fish and in this particular case the Russian Federation was after Boris Berezovsky and the best way of getting Boris Berezovky was to make Tony Blair's position unsustainable. Revealing details about Boris Berezovsky's operations in Chechnya, linked to what was happening in Afghanistan, would force the British Government to give up Boris Berezovsky. But given that Berezovsky was also helping the CIA and facilitated transit of US troops into Afghanistan, the British Establishment had to move quickly to avoid public embarrassment and protect a man that was considered an asset at the time.

When Andrei Lugovoi, former colleague of Alexandr Litvinenko, came to London to persuade Alexandr Litvinenko to cooperate with the Russian Federation in exchange for a free passage agreement this signalled big danger for the British Establishment killing Alexandr Litvinenko to protect Boris Berezovsky became a number one priority.

Even until this day Marina Litvinenko is trying, unsuccessfully, to get the British Establishment to acknowledge that Alexandr Litvinenko was in fact working for the British Establishment. The British Establishment wants none of it because they believe that such acknowledgement would create a snowballing effect leading to the truth about how and why Alexandr Litvinenko was killed by British agents.

With Alexandr Litvinenko, out of the picture by courtesy of the Security Services of Tony Blair, the Russian Federation still had an interest in exposing Boris Berezovky and this is why I was asked to travel to Brazil where Brazilian prosecutors had valuable information that would seriously incriminate Boris Berezovsky. Oh, surprise, hours before my trip to Brazil, Boris Berezovsky appeared dead in his bathroom. Conveniently enough, Boris Berezovsky had been left without bodyguard protection.
By that time, Boris Berezovsky had become a public embarrassment and was no longer useful and therefore he was more of a liability for the British Establishment. After losing a very public litigation in British courts when facing Roman Abramovich, it was said that 'Boris Berezovsky was feeling depressed'. Killing Boris Berezovsky, the British Establishment destroyed a very embarrassing link.

Roman Abramovich
A saga like the Litvinenko Affair is used over and over again by the British Establishment to try and cause some damage to the Russian Federation, when in fact War Criminal Tony Blair should be the one on the spot.

Well, it is business as usual for the British Security Services and poor Marina Litvinenko will have to wait more than 100 years to read de-classified papers when the matter is no longer remembered nor relevant.
